After a dominant performance at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, softball superstar Haylie McCleney and the USA Softball Women’s National Team have been named as candidates for The World Games Athlete of the Year and Team of the Year 2022 awards. 

The International World Games Association (IWGA) revealed today the list of candidates for both accolades. The winners will be announced on 31st January, after an online voting process.

McCleney, a Tokyo 2020 silver medallist who played center field in all five games at The World Games 2022 for USA, posted a .533 batting average with five RBI and four runs scored, en route to earning the MVP honours of the competition. 

Meanwhile, the USA Women’s Softball National Team went undefeated to win the gold medal at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, defeating Japan, 3-2, in the final. The game was played at Hoover Met Stadium, setting a record attendance for The World Games, with more than 10,000 fans in the stands.

At the end of 2022, USA extended their lead over Japan to remain as the top-ranked nation in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings

Voting begins on 10th January, 2023. From 22nd January, only the 10 highest ranked athlete candidates and seven highest ranked team candidates will continue in the race. All candidates will re-start with 0 votes. Voting ends on 31st January, 2023 at 12:00 GMT.

You can give your votes to the candidates on The World Games website once per 24 hours. Votes must be given each time to two candidates: Two votes to your first-choice candidate and one vote to your second-choice candidate.
