Hermosillo Naranjeros sweep final, claim 17th Mexican Pacific League title

Their last win dates back to 2014. Outfielder Aaron Altherr earned MVP honours. Left-handed reliever Luis Marquez contributed with key saves in Game Two and Three.

Hermosillo Naranjeros swept Mazatlan Venados in the best-of-seven final series to claim their 17th Mexico Pacific League (LMP), the first since 2014.

They became the first team to sweep the LMP final series since the 2012-2013 Yaquis de Obregon.

The LMP is a 10 team professional baseball winter league based in north western Mexico founded in 1945.

Four Hermosillo pitchers combined a shutout in the title-clinching Game Four. Zach Matson allowed only five hits over six innings while striking out seven. Curtis Taylor, Fernando Salas and Luis Marquez took care of the final nine outs.

Marquez, a 26-year-old left-hander, proved instrumental earning the save in Game Two and Three after protecting one-run leads.

Aaron Altherr, who had two home runs and five runs batted in in the series, earned MVP honours.

The German-born outfielder, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player and Korean Series champion is nicknamed El Kaiser due to his heritage.
