Historic draft set up rosters for inaugural Mexican Softball League season

The No. 1 overall pick in the draft was Cuban catcher Rosangela Jardines, selected by Olmecas de Tabasco. The No. 1 pitcher was Yilian Tornes, the Cuban National Team ace, who will play for Aguilas de Veracruz.

On December 7th, the Mexican Softball League (LMS) hosted the historic 2023 Draft at Mexico City's Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium. The six franchises that make up the historic first edition of the competition selected their 20 players who will compete in the 2024 season.

The players were selected by position, starting with three catchers for each team, seven infielders, six outfielders, and four pitchers.. The No. 1 overall pick in the draft was the Cuban catcher Rosangela Jardines, selected by Olmecas de Tabasco. The No. 1 pitcher was Yilian Tornes, the Cuban National Team ace, who will play for Aguilas de Veracruz.

Among the 120 players selected in the draft, are two Olympians: Venezuelan Yuruby Alicart (Beijing 2008) and Mexican Stefania Aradillas (Tokyo 2020).

The inaugural season of the Mexican Softball League, which was launched with the support of the Mexican Baseball League, will open on 25 January.

Each team will play 12 series as home team, and 12 on the road. The regular season will finish on 3 March, with the top four in the standings advancing to the semifinals, in a best-of-five series to be played between 5-10 March. The winners of the semifinals will play the Serie de la Reina (Queen's Series), a five-game series from 12-17 March to find the first-ever Mexican Softball League Champion.
