Hsia-Ai Ke blanks Puerto Rico for Chinese Taipei’s second World Cup win

The right hander pitched the complete game and collected her first win of the tournament.

A masterpiece by starting pitcher Hsia-Ai Ke kept Puerto Rico off the scoreboard and gave Chinese Taipei their second win in the tournament. The Asian squad defeated Puerto Rico, 4-0, in the first game of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup day 2. The right hander struck out four while allowing four hits and a walk, in a complete game performance.

Chinese Taipei scored their first two runs in the fourth frame, and added two more on an RBI-triple off the bat of leadoff hitter Hsin-Yun Li, who then scored on an RBI single by Yi-Hsuan Chiu.

Hsia-Ai Ke used 98 pitches, 70 of them in the strike zone, to retire the 21 outs of the game.

Puerto Rico hit two of their four hits to open the seventh inning. But a line drive to second base started a rally-killing double play.

Chinese Taipei moved to a 2-0 record, while Puerto Rico is now 1-1.
