Hungary celebrates 25th anniversary with new softball field

BUDAPEST – The Hungarian Baseball and Softball Federation (MOBSSZ) has built the country’s first softball field capable of hosting international events.

BUDAPEST – The Hungarian Baseball and Softball Federation (MOBSSZ) has built the country’s first softball field capable of hosting international events.

During their 25th Anniversary celebration, the new softball-specific field – only the second such field in the country – was opened during the special Baseball and Softball Day. The facility now includes fields for both of the bat-and-ball sports.

The community event was attended by MOBSSZ President Bence Makai, MOBSSZ board member Zsuzsa Balog, and European Softball Federation President Gabriel Waage.

The celebrations started with the honorary tape cutting, followed by the East vs West All-Stars Game, which was televised live on Hungarian National Television. Mr. Makai threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

In the afternoon, the first official coed slow pitch softball game was played with Mr. Waage throwing out the first pitch.

The festivities also included the first Hungarian Hall of Fame induction to Antonio Morua, the founder of the baseball movement in Hungary.

Hungary – unranked on the softball world stage – will participate in this summer’s European Softball Championship, after missing the event two years ago. They are ranked #57 for baseball.
