India, Indonesia advance to second round of Women's Baseball Asia Cup

In Group A of the second round, World No. 18 India will face No. 2 Chinese Taipei, No. 15 China, and No. 11 Hong Kong-China. In Group B, Indonesia will play No. 1 Japan, No. 10 Korea, No. 14 Philippines.

India and Indonesia advanced undefeated to the second round of the III Women's Baseball Asia Cup.

India beat Thailand, 9-8, and Malaysia, 19-0 to win Group A.

Third base and pitcher Athulya Chonamkandathi posted a .714 batting average, going 5-for-7 with four runs batted in. Reshma Punekar took care of most of the pitching, going 10.2 innings.

Indonesia outscored Sri Lanka, 24-3, and Hong Kong, 22-2, before using a six-run first at-bat to defeat Pakistan, 8-2.

Catcher Afiska Louhenapessy went 7-for-10, and first base Hanifa Safiyandini went 6-for-10. Ni Putri proved the best pitcher, allowing a 2.00 earned run average and earning a win in seven innings of work.

World No. 18 India will join Group A and face World No. 2 Chinese Taipei, No. 15 China, and No. 11 Hong Kong-China.

Indonesia will play in Group B and face No. 1 Japan, No. 10 Korea, No. 14 Philippines.

After group play, the top two finishers of each group will play against the number one and two seeds of the other group in the Super Round.

After the Super Round, the first and second-place finishers will advance to the final and earn their place in the first stage of the IX WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup. The third and fourth-placed teams will compete for a bronze medal.

The top finisher of the Asia Cup, excluding Japan, already qualified as one of the host Nations, will join Group B of the World Cup, scheduled from 13 to 17 September in Miyoshi City, Japan.

The other two National Teams qualified through the Asia Cup will compete in Group A, scheduled from 8 to 13 August in Thunder Bay, Canada.
