Indios de Mayaguez crowned Puerto Rican 'Roberto Clemente' Pro Winter League baseball champions

It's their 19th league title. Indios defeated Gigantes de Carolina in an emotional seven-game final series. Jeremy Rivera earned MVP honours.

Indios de Mayaguez defeated Gigantes de Carolina in seven games to claim the 2022-2023 title of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico. It's the Indios' 19th league title. They succeed Criollos de Caguas.

The league's final series hadn't ended with a game seven since the 2010-2011 edition.

Jeremy Rivera and Joshua Palacios batted in the runs Mayaguez needed to win. Rob Whalen went 6-1 innings for the win, while Braden Webb pitched the final three innings and earned the save.

Indios manager Mako Oliveras celebrated his eighth pennant at age 76.

Edwards Guzman, the Gigantes' skipper and the league's Manager of the Year, congratulated him after the game.
