The WBSC and the international softball community mourn the loss of international softball umpire Scott Rindfleish, who passed away on Sunday in Sydney, Australia, due to cancer. He was 40 years old.

Rindfleish umpired four WBSC World Championships, including the Junior Men’s Softball World Championship 2008 in Whitehorse, Canada; the Women’s Softball World Championship 2010 in Venezuela, and the Men’s Softball World Championships 2013 and 2019 in New Zealand and Czech Republic. His last World Championship game was the Bronze Medal Game between Canada and New Zealand in Prague.

A Softball Australia Hall of Famer, Scott was member of a softball family in New South Wales. His father, Andrew, was also an international umpire who officiated in four World Championships in his 22 years of umpiring career; while his brother, Adam, was assistant coach of Australia’s men’s junior national team in the 2016 and 2018, helping the team win the world title in Canada; and leading the U-18 national squad to a silver medal in the Men’s Softball World Cup 2020 in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

In recent years, Rindfleish established the Scott Rindfleish Foundation aiming to prevent bowel cancer by increasing awareness and early detection, support cancer patients and their loved ones during cancer treatment; and raise money for bowel cancer research.
