Italy’s Blind Baseball League expanding for 2018 season

WBSC is in the process of reviewing and developing Paralympic international activity and looks with interest at succesfull experiences like Baseball for the Blind and Wheelchair Softball

The Italian League of Baseball for the Blind is expanding and opening its 22nd season today. The 2018 season will see 11 teams take the field, which is 2 more than in 2017.

The 11 teams will be divided into 2 groups and will face each other following and unbalanced schedule.

The West Division will see on the field 2 teams from Milan (Lampi and Thunder’s 5), Leonessa Brescia, Patrini Malnate (the defending champions) and the first year team Thurpos Cagliari.

The teams in the East Division are Bologna White Sox, Fiorentina, Rome AllBlinds, Tigers Cagliari, Staranzano (from the north east Region Friuli Venezia Giulia) and the first year team Umbria Redskins from Perugia.

During the regular season games may end in a tie. During playoffs a tie-break rule will be introduced after 9 innings.

Baseball for the Blind and Wheelchair Softball are highly supported by WBSC, as the world governing body is in the early stages of reviewing and developing Paralympic international activity.
