Olympic softball preview: Italy to take on USA, Canada in Florida
Italy will travel to the US from 13-29 April, ahead of the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games softball event.

The Italian Baseball Softball Federation (FIBS - Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball) has announced a two-week training camp in Florida, USA, including friendly matches against the US and Canadian Olympic Softball Teams. Italy will be based at the Jackie Robinson Complex in Vero Beach and Fort Myers. The exact dates of the matches will be confirmed at a later date.

A total of 19 players will report to camp in Florida:

This will be the first experience for Federico Pizzolini as the new head coach of the team. He replaced the late Enrico Obletter, who passed away this past February, but couldn’t lead the last training camp in Friuli Venezia-Giulia in March since he had to be isolated with COVID-19.

Italy’s two main goals this summer FIBS says are to retain the crown as European softball champions and earn the country’s first Olympic softball medal at Tokyo 2020. Le Azzurre, the 10th ranked nation in the world, will make their debut in the Olympics against No. 1 USA on 21 July in Fukushima. It will be the European nation’s third Olympic appearance.

Italy will host the European Softball Championship from 27 June to 3 July.
