Italy's top baseball league to expand to 33 teams, opens 7 May

The Italian Baseball Series, which crowns the national champions, is scheduled from 20 to 29 August.

The Italian Baseball Softball Federation (FIBS, Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball) recently announced that the top baseball league (Serie A1) would expand to 33 teams. The participants will be split into 8 groups, with each group winner advancing to the championship round.

Opening day is scheduled for 7 May. The championship round, featuring two groups of four, will open on 3 July. The second round's top two finishers will compete for the national championship in the Italian Baseball Series, which is programmed for 20-29 August.
