Italy's Williams Wong: WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup star signs contract with MLB's Texas Rangers

The 17-year-old left-handed hitter starred at the XXX WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, posting a .429 batting average

WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup alum Williams Wong signed a contract with the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball.

The 17-year-old Wong appeared in all of Italy's eight games at the U-18 Baseball World Cup last year in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida, USA - three at second base and five as the designated hitter.

A left-handed bat, he went 9-for-21, a .429 batting average, with two doubles and six RBIs.

Wong is one of 17 international signings the Rangers announced on 15 January. The list includes eight players from the Dominican Republic, five from Venezuela, one from the Bahamas, one from Cuba and one from Mexico.
