Jamison Brockenbrough highlights hosts Ireland’s roster for XVII WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group A

The Irish squad includes 12 members of the 2022 roster that participated in the Women’s Softball European Championship.

World No. 17 and Group A hosts Ireland unveiled a 15-athlete list for the XVII WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage. Jamison Brockenbrough highlights a roster with international experience, as 12 of them participated in last year’s European Championship.

Brockenbrough, a 19-year old outfielder, had a good Freshman season playing for Tennessee in the US college Division 1, hitting .252 and helping the Lady Vols to advance to the World Series, becoming the first Irish player in doing it. 

She was also a member the 2022 Ireland roster, and helped her National Team to a ninth-place finish at the European Championship, a qualifier for the World Cup. Brockenbrough hit for .389 in the tournament. A total of 12 veterans of this roster will compete in the World Cup Group A from 11-15 July in Fingal-Dublin.

Summer Rocha is the only veteran from the Irish U-19 Women’s National Softball Team that finished 14th in the 2019 World Cup in Irvine, California. She hit for .294 with one triple and two RBIs. She also started two games from the circle, posting a 5.25 ERA in 5.1 innings pitched.

Ireland will open Group A play on 11 July, taking on No. 43 Botswana, followed by a double header on the 12th against No. 9 Australia and No. 3 Chinese Taipei. On 13 July they will face No. 16 Great Britain, closing the opening round the day after agains No. 1 USA.
