Officials in Japan will stage a three-day trial filling the 34,000-seat Yokohama Stadium, in order to monitor the measures that aim at preventing the spreading of COVID-19.
Regular games will be played during the three days, beginning on 30 October, with the stadium set to be filled to up to 80 percent of its capacity on the first day and potentially a 100 percent 'sellout crowd' by day three of the trial, if the trial goes according to plan.
"We want to mobilize the most advanced technologies to present a model and create a path toward the success of the Tokyo Olympics," Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa recently told reporters.
Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) recently raised the limit of fans admitted into ballparks from 5,000, as established in September, to 10,000, and this figure is supposed to stand through the end of November.
The home of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars is to be the main venue for baseball and softball at the Tokyo Olympic Games. It will host on the softball medal games on 27 July 2021, and the baseball medal games on 7 August 2021.
High precision cameras will look into the flow and density of people entering the various areas of the ballpark, as well as the percentage of spectators wearing masks.
