Japan, Ueno earn fifth consecutive Asian Games softball Gold Medal; baseball second round to start tomorrow

Japan softball National Team claimed the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta – Palembang, with a five-inning, 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in the finale of the tournament. Baseball’s round 2 to start tomorrow.

Japan softball National Team claimed the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta – Palembang, with a five-inning, 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in the finale of the tournament. Softball legend Yukiko Ueno and Yu Yamamoto led Japan to the fifth consecutive gold medal at the continental event.

Japan confirmed one more time its supremacy in the Asian continent, going undefeated to claim the Gold Medal in Indonesia, scoring a total of 72 runs, while allowing just three.

In the beginning of the page playoffs, Japan defeated China, 5-0, and advanced directly to the Gold Medal Game. In the other hand, Chinese Taipei eliminated Philippines by a score of 6-3. Finally, in the Bronze Medal Game, Chinese Taipei defeated China 5-4.

Ueno added another milestone to her already illustrious career, winning her fifth gold medal at the Asian Games, equaling the record for most in a team sport, held by Yoon Kyung-Shin (KOR) in the men’s handball.

Thailand advances to second round in baseball

The first round of the Asian Games baseball competition was completed yesterday, with the victory of Thailand over Sri Lanka, 14-3. With this result the Thai team clinched the top spot in the three-team Round 1 (where also played Laos) and advanced to the Groups stage, starting tomorrow.

The Group A features Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Korea; while Group B includes China, Japan, Pakistan and Thailand. All the games will be played at GBK Jakarta Baseball Field and Rawamangun Baseball Field.

Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan have divided all possible 18 baseball medals at the Asian Games between them. Korea has won the last two baseball gold medals, and will try to become the first country ever to win this event three times in a row.
