Africa: Japanese Embassy to support new baseball field in Burkina Faso

The Japanese Embassy will grant $87,500 over 12 months. "It's a historic day," baseball officials in the country say.

The Embassy of Japan will support the Baseball and Softball Federation of Burkina Faso (FBBS) in building a sports complex that will include a baseball, rugby and soccer field.

The new complex will be built on over 21,000 square metres in the nation's capital, Ouagadougou.

FBBS President Ibrahima Sibore signed an agreement with Ambassador Masaaki Kato on 14 March at the Japanese Embassy in Ouagadougou. The deal will grant FBBS CFA Francs 52 million (approximately US$ 87,500) over 12 months.

Two representatives of the soccer and rugby Federations witnessed the signing of the agreement together with FBBS secretary-general Issa Ilboudo and honorary president Ibrahim N'Diaye.

"14 March will remain a historic date," the FFBS posted on Facebook.
