Karli Spaid homers, leads USA to five-inning win against Colombia

USA defeated Colombia, 8-0, at field 2 of Villa Maria del Triunfo Sports Complex in Lima, Peru.

World No. 2 USA claimed today their second win in the U-18 Softball World Cup in Lima, Peru, an 8-0 victory over No. 40 Colombia in five innings. Karli Spaid lead the way in the US line-up with a three run homer in the first inning.

USA scored five runs in the first inning, incluiding Spaid’s bomb to right field. Errin Coffel, Viollet Zavodnik and Megan Grant had multi-hit games for USA, hitting six of eight US hits.

Colombia’s only hit of the game came off the bat of Ericka Gomez, a one-out single in the top of the fourth inning. 

For USA, the winning pitcher was Morgan MacKenzie. She pitched four innings of one-hit ball, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Keagan Rothrock closed the game in the fifth striking out the side.

USA moved to 2-0 in the standings, while Colombia is still winless after a pair of games.
