KBO board nominates Koo-youn Heo for Commissioner

Currently serving as a baseball commentator, he would be the first ex-player to serve as the KBO chief. He would need a three-quarter majority at the general assembly.

WBSC Associate Member Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has announced that its board of directors advanced the nomination of Koo-youn Heo for league commissioner. He would need a three-quarters majority by the general assembly to become the new KBO chief.

The commissioner post has been vacant since Ji-taik Chung resigned in early February. If elected, Heo would serve through 2023.

Heo, 71, played at the semipro level in the 1970s and served as the Chengbo Pintos manager. The club, based in Incheon, changed its name to Taepyeongyang Dolphins in 1988 and became the Hyundai Unicorns in 1995. The Unicorns moved from Incheon to Suwon in 1999.

Heo is currently working as a baseball commentator for MBC, a local broadcaster. He served in the same position for Lotte Giants of KBO and the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He would become the first ex-player to serve as KBO Commissioner.
