All 10 teams participating in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league decided to remain in Korea for the first part of Spring Training. Before the pandemic, KBO teams travelled to warmer parts of the world, such as Florida and Arizona in the USA or parts of Japan and Taiwan, to get ready for the preseason.
The KBO decided to tighten the health and safety protocols. Teams were reminded to keep masks in all areas except during practice. Players and coaches received recommendations to refrain from dining out at restaurants and participate in gatherings with the general public. The KBO also recommended booster vaccine shots.
The 2022 preseason is scheduled to begin on 12 March. Each team will play 16 warm-up games. The KBO opening day is scheduled for 2 April.
Earlier this week, Joong-il Ryu, a four-time KBO championship manager, was named the Korean National Baseball Team manager for the 2022 Asian Games.
