KBO's Doosan Bears re-sign Cuban star Jose Miguel Fernandez

The deal is worth US$ 1.1 million. The former Cuban National Team outfielder will appear in his fourth KBO season.

The Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league have re-signed star hitter Jose Miguel Fernandez. He will play his fourth season with the club. The deal is worth US$ 1.1 million, the Yonhap news agency reports.

Fernandez, 33, received a US$ 200,000 signing bonus and will earn 600,000 in guaranteed salary and up to 300,000 in incentives.

Fernandez was born in Colon, Cuba. He played for Matanzas in the Cuban National League and represented his country at the World Baseball Classic 2013. He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels, making his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut for the Angels in June 2018.

He is one of the top hitters in the league. Since joining KBO in 2019, he has had the most hits (506) and total bases (806). He has missed only three games over the past three seasons while posting a .333 batting average.

The Bears lost the 2021 Korean Series against the KT Wiz.
