“I am excited for the new [World Cup] format that allows us to develop a team over a four-year cycle with the goal of another podium finish in 2025,” said Canada’s head coach.

Softball Canada has named Keith Mackintosh as the new head coach of the Junior Women’s National Team program for the next WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup cycle (2023-2025).

“I am honoured to be selected as the Head Coach of Junior Women’s National Team and look forward to the challenge of qualifying for the 2025 WBSC U-18 World Cup” stated Mackintosh. “I am excited for the new format that allows us to develop a team over a four-year cycle with the goal of another podium finish in 2025.”

The WBSC unveiled last year a new competition format named “Two-Stage World Cup”, switching from a two-year to a four-year cycle. The WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage, with 18 teams divided among three different groups and locations, will be played in 2024. The top two teams from each group plus two wild cards will advance to the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals (8 teams) scheduled for 2025.

This will be Mackintosh’s fifth cycle with Canada's Junior Women’s National Team and third as head coach. He served as an assistant coach in 2013 (5th) and 2015 (4th) before becoming head coach for the 2017 (4th) cycle and most recently leading Canada to its first-ever medal at the Junior Women’s level with a bronze medal at the 2019 U-19 World Cup.
