"I'm confident this agreement will help us develop the game further in Kenya," commented Kenyan baseball leader Titus Mutwiri.

The Baseball Federation of Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan Africa Baseball and Softball Foundation (J-ABS).

The MOU outlines a five-year partnership to help Kenya's baseball and softball development.

The first result of the agreement was a two-day (16-17 July) clinic for 30 coaches from across the country at the Rowallan Scouts Camp, Nairobi.

Plans for the future include equipment donation, investment in facilities and the launch of a high school national championship shaped on the Japanese Koshien model.

"J-ABS has done some extensive [development] work in Africa, starting from Nigeria and then Ghana and Tanzania," said Baseball Federation of Kenya President Titus Mutwiri during a television interview.

J-ABS is currently active also in Burkina Faso and South Sudan.

"I'm confident this agreement will help us develop the game further in Kenya," added Mutwiri, "mostly by training our coaches and helping them become better coaches. Ideally, the agreement will also help us develop more facilities dedicated to the game."
