Baseball5 Asia Cup: Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei advance undefeated to Super Round

The hosts, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore, qualified as the runner-ups. The top four will compete in the medal round, with the three medal winners qualifying for the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

The inaugural Baseball5 Asia Cup opened on Wednesday, 17 August, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Chinese Taipei advanced to the Super Round.

Korea, Japan and Chinese Taipei qualified undefeated. Malaysia advanced as the Group A runner-up, Hong Kong finished second in group B, and Singapore eliminated Pakistan in group C.

In group A, Thailand made it difficult for Korea. After winning the first game of the series, 4-1, Thailand lost the second in the tie-breaker. Korea won the rubber match 3-1.

The Philippines made it hard for Japan and Hong Kong in group B. Japan needed three games to win the series. The Phillippines won the opener, 3-1, then Japan came back to sweep the other two, 5-1 and 5-1.

Hong Kong swept the series against the Philippines, winning two close games, 4-2 and 4-2, knocking the Philippines out of the tournament.

The Super Round is scheduled for Thursday, 18 August. Hong Kong faces Korea at 08:30 local time to open the day.

The top four finishers of the super round will advance to the medal round.
