Kuei-Ping Yeh’s homer lifts Chinese Taipei past Colombia in five

Chinese Taipei took game 1 of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup with a 9-0, five-inning win over Colombia.

World No.6 Chinese Taipei opened today the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup with a five-inning, 9-0 win over No. 40 Colombia in a game played at Villa Maria del Triunfo sports complex in Lima, Peru. 

The Asian team took an early lead in the game and never looked back. Three Colombian errors allowed Chinese Taipei to score six runs in the first inning, setting the table for the run-difference win.

Chinese Taipei designated player Yeh homered in the third inning, clearing the center field fence. She finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

For the winning team, three pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout. Hsia-Ai Ke started for the Asian squad pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Yi-Shan Chu relieved in the third and grabbed the win with one-inning of work, allowing the only hit of the game off the bat of Cristibel Blanco, while Ching-Yu Chen pitched the last two innings. 

Colombian starter Sophia Bertorelli was charged with the loss.
