L&D Amsterdam wins Dutch national baseball championship for 6th time

The Netherlands is one of the top baseball countries in Europe.

In an exciting series that needed the full seven games to decide, L&D Amsterdam defeated Curaçao Neptunus, 4-2, in Game 7 of the Honkbal Hoofdklasse's Holland Series.

It's the to sixth national title for Amsterdam.

L&D and Neptunus, teams based in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, are the most successful in the recent league history, winning between them every title, except one, since the 2008 season.

L&D outfielder Denzel Richardson, who played for the Netherlands at the Final Olympic Qualifier and at the European Championship, was named the Most Valuable Player of the season. Richardson, who also was recognized as the best offensive player of the season, posted a .447 batting average and led the league in singles, doubles, triples and RBI’s, and also ranked second in stolen bases and fourth in home runs.

Fans across the world followed the Honkbal Hoofdklasse season through the WBSC’s YouTube channel, where 30 games were broadcast.
