TAICHUNG, Taiwan-The Lamigo Monkeys beat 4 games to 1 the Chinatrust Brother to win the 2017 CPBL Taiwan Series. It’s been their third championship in 4 years and their fifth overall

TAICHUNG, Taiwan- The Lamigo Monkeys beat 4 games to 1 the Chinatrust Brother to win the 2017 CPBL Taiwan Series. It’s been their third championship in 4 years and their fifth overall.

The Monkeys had dominated the regular season (78 wins) and could start the final series with a 1 game lead. The Chinatrust Brother tied it winning, 8-5, the first game in Taoyuan in front of 19,489 fans.
The Lamigo Monkeys outscored the Brother in game 2, 14-5, in front of 17,192 fans in Taoyuan and then travelled to Taichung to win, 19-3, game 3 in front of a 9,404 attendance.
The series clinching win happened the day after in front of 10,282 fans. The Monkeys won, 4-2, behind a very good performance by starting pitcher Wang I Cheng, who allowed only a couple of solo homers to Chang Chih Hao.

Veteran Chen Chun Hsiu, who had starred in 2006 for Chinese Taipei in the U-18 Baseball World Cup and after that had signed for MLB’s Cleveland Indians, earned MVP honors with an astonishing .714 batting average, 8 runs scored and 4 RBIs.
