Licey on top of the Dominican Professional Baseball Winter League for 24th time

The Tigres needed seven games to defeat Estrellas Orientales and repeat as champions. Second baseman Gustavo Gomez earned MVP honours.

Licey Tigres defeated Estrellas Orientales in seven games to repeat as the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) champions.

The LIDOM final series has gone seven games nine times with Licey having won three of those series.

It's the 24th league title for Licey, and it came at the end of a hard-fought series. The Tigres came back from a 2-0 deficit with a one-run difference deciding the final two games.

A three-run third inning, capped by a Ramon Hernandez double, gave Licey all the runs they needed.

Jairo Asencio got Game Seven's final three outs, collecting his seventh career save in the LIDOM final series.

Licey second baseman Gustavo Núñez, who had 10 hits in the finals series and posted a .370 batting average with five runs batted in (RBIs), earned MVP honours.

Licey's Gilbert Gómez, 30, became the youngest manager to win a LIDOM title.
