Lima to host 2027 Pan American Games, second time in eight years

During the Pan Am Games Lima 2019, Men's Baseball, Women's Softball and Men´s Softball were all featured as medal disciplines.

Lima, Peru was selected as host of the XX Pan American Games 2027, in an election held at the Pan Am Sports Extraordinary General Assembly in Miami, USA. After organizing the XVIII Pan American Games in 2019, the most important multi-sport event on the continent returns to the Peruvian capital in 2027.

Lima was awarded the 2027 Games over Asuncion, Paraguay with Peru's biggest city winning 28 votes to 24.

“I want to highlight the transparency of the process and the brotherhood of both nations that competed healthily for the right to host the 2027 Pan American Games,” said Neven Ilic, Pan Am Sports President. "I want to congratulate Lima, all of Peru and the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, for this tremendous achievement. A few years ago, they shook an entire continent with excitement and today, with more experience and spectacular infrastructure, they want to repeat or improve the success achieved in 2019."

During the Pan Am Games Lima 2019, Men's Baseball, Women's Softball and Men´s Softball were all featured as medal disciplines. The state-of-the-art baseball and softball stadiums built for Lima 2019 are located in Villa Maria del Triunfo Complex, in the southern area of the city. The softball venue also hosted in 2021 the WBSC U-18 Women's Softball World Cup, adding to the legacy of the Pan Am Games infrastructure plan.

Baseball has been part of the Pan American Games since the first edition that took place at Buenos Aires 1951. At Santiago 2023, Colombia defeated Brazil in the Gold Medal Game and claimed their first ever Pan American Games title.

Softball has been present at the Pan Am Games since Puerto Rico 1979. USA Softball won their 10th women’s softball gold medal at Santiago 2023. Men's softball, which featured for the last time in Lima 2019, was not part of the programme in Santiago.
