Mexican Baseball League 2023 to open on 20 April in Leon

The Bravos host the defending champions Leones de Yucatan. The 90-game regular season will end on 6 August. Twelve of the 18 participants will advance to the playoffs.

Bravos de Leon will host the defending champions Leones de Yucatan for the 98th Mexican Baseball League (LMB) opening game on Thursday, 20 April.

The rest of the 18 participating teams will take the field on Friday, 21 April.

The SCHEDULE

The participants are split into the Northern and Southern Conferences and will compete in a 90-game regular season. Parque Centenario in Villahermosa, Tabasco, will host the All-Star Game from 16 to 18 June.

The regular season will finish on 6 August, and the top six teams of each Conference will advance to the playoffs.

The postseason will consist of four rounds: Primer Playoff (First playoff, 8-17 August), Series de Zona (Conference series, 18-27 August), Series de Campeonato (Championship series, 28 August-6 September) and Serie del Rey (King Series, the final, 9-16 September).

The three winners of the first playoff and the loser with the best record will advance to the conference series.

Toros de Tijuana, led by World Baseball Classic and WBSC Premier12 star right-hander Manny Barreda, look like the team to beat in the Northern Conference.

Tecolotes dos Laredos are also relying on a consistent pitching rotation. Dominican manager Felix Fermin, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) shortstop, believes the team can improve an already winning 2022 season.

Mexico City Diablos Rojos led the Southern Conference in 2022. The goal is the 17th league title in the club's history.

Diablos Rojos look again like the strongest competitor for the defending champions, Leones, in 2023.

LMB is a WBSC associate member.
