Mexican Softball League: Historic inaugural season to be staged in 2024 supported by Mexican Baseball League

Six clubs from the Mexican Baseball League will participate in an historic first edition of the Mexican Softball League in 2024: Diablos Rojos del México, Bravos de León, El Águila de Veracruz, Leones de Yucatán, Olmecas de Tabasco and Sultanes de Monterrey.

The Mexican Baseball League (LMB), a WBSC Associated member, and the Mexican Softball Federation (FMS) officially presented the Mexican Softball League (LMS), the first professional women's softball circuit in Mexico.

Six LMB clubs will participate in the historic first edition of the Mexican Softball League in 2024: Diablos Rojos del México, Bravos de León, El Águila de Veracruz, Leones de Yucatán, Olmecas de Tabasco and Sultanes de Monterrey.

The LMS aims to professionalise women's sports and promote the discipline in Mexico. Its first edition is projected to start on January 25, 2024 and the playoffs will start at the end of February. The clubs will use their LMB stadiums for the Mexican Softball League. The final series will be called “Serie de la Reina” (“Queen Series”), in allusion to “Serie del Rey” (King’s Series), the historic name of the LMB Final Series.

The presentation was made during a press conference in Mexico City where Horacio de la Vega, Executive President of the LMB, emphasized: “This is a very important project. We are witnesses of a historic presentation. If we all work together we will make this new league grow in the coming years.”

The teams will play four games each week, a pair of two-game series Thursday & Friday, and Saturday & Sunday. Each team will play 20 regular season games. A total of 60 games will be played in the historic inaugural season.

“In America, the Mexican Softball League will be pioneer. They have all our support. The Mexican Softball Federation appreciates all the support given to the league,” commented Rolando Guerrero, President of the Mexican Softball Federation.

“A professional softball league in our country is now a reality,” said Stefania Aradillas, who represented Mexico in softball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “I am very excited to be part of this first generation of softball players who are going to make history. What excites me most is that the girls who are now in little leagues will be able to dream of representing one of these organisations."

Mexico is currently No. 6 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking. The senior National Team debuted in the Olympic Games with a fourth-place campaign in Tokyo 2020, losing the bronze medal game to Canada, 3-2.
