Mexico beats Nicaragua 4-0 to claim bronze in Americas Qualifier for U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017

The world No. 8 Mexican National Team shut out No. 18 Nicaragua, 4-0, Sunday to claim the bronze medal of the Pan-American U-18 Baseball Championship 2016 – the continental qualifier of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Thunder Bay, Canada.

MONTERREY, Nuevo Leon, Mexico – The world No. 8 Mexican National Team shut out No. 18 Nicaragua, 4-0, Sunday to claim the bronze medal of the Pan-American U-18 Baseball Championship 2016 – the continental qualifier of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Thunder Bay, Canada.

Mexico starter Gabriel Kuri limited Nicaragua to one hit over six innings and struck out nine to earn the win.  Mexico scored all the runs they would need in the top of the fourth inning, putting four runs on the scoreboard.

In the Opening Round of the tournament, Nicaragua defeated Mexico, 3-1.

Finishing among the top four in Monterrey, both Mexico and Nicaragua will advance to Thunder Bay on behalf of the Americas to compete For the Title of World Champion in the U-18 category.

Facing elimination on Saturday, Mexico beat the United States, 2-1, which knocked Panama out of the tournament finals and also out of the U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017.

Cuba and the United States will play for the Americas title today at Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey.
