Mexico edges Spain to win Women’s International Softball Cup, Czech Republic finishes third

The Mexican squad defeated host Spain, 2-0, and repeated as champion of the international competition. Czech Republic finished in third place.

World No. 4 Mexico topped host/No. 17 Spain, 2-0, in the final of the Women’s International Softball Cup to clinch their second consecutive title in the WBSC-sanctioned event. The event was played at Municipal Baseball Softball Field in Valencia.

After a triple round-robin from Thursday to Saturday, Mexico and Spain finished atop the standings, ahead of No. 11 Czech Republic, to advance to Sunday's championship game.

Mexico scored one in the bottom of the third inning via an RBI by Alexandra Piña, and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, on an RBI single by Diana Arcega.

Mexico is getting ready to participate in The World Games 2022, to be played in Birmingham, Alabama, from 9-13 July. Czech Republic and Spain will be playing the European Softball Championship from 24-30 July in Spain.
