Michal Holobradek to lead renovated Czech Republic team in quest for WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup first medal

Michal Holobradek will lead the Czech four-man pitching staff, joined by Jonas Hajny, Lukas Kubat and Marek Maly. Only three players, including Holobradek, repeat from the 2019 Czech team that finished eighth place as host of the World Cup in 2019.

Czech Softball announced its 16-player roster for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup 2022, to be played at Rosedale Park in Auckland, New Zealand, from 26 November to 4 December. After a historic bronze medal at the U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup in 2020, the European team will aim for a first-ever medal in a WBSC senior event.

Michal Holobradek will lead the Czech four-man pitching staff, joined by Jonas Hajny, Lukas Kubat and Marek Maly, all in their mid-20s. Holobradek and Maly will play their third World Cup, while Hajny and Kubat will make their debut in the event.

Only three players repeat from the 2019 Czech team that finished in eighth place as host of the World Cup in 2019: Holobradek, Mikulas Klas and Maly

Czech Republic, No. 5 in the men’s softball world rankings, qualified for the Men’s Softball World Cup 2022 after winning their fifth European title in a row and will celebrate their 10th consecutive (and total) participation in the event this year. The European team first appeared in Manila 1992 and since then has qualified to every Men’s Softball World Cup.

Their best finish has been a sixth place in East London, South Africa, in 2000; and they have made the playoffs in two of the last three editions (2015 and 2019).
