15/02/2021
MLB clubs will have four affiliates for a total of 120 Minor League teams, all holding a Professional Development League (PDL) license.

Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that 120 teams have been selected as partners by Major League Clubs. The selected clubs will hold a Professional Development League (PDL) license.

The licenses will create many improvements to the experience and lifestyle of Minor League players. Their salaries will have increases ranging from 38 to 72% for the 2021 season. A better geographical alignment will reduce in-season travel for player and coaches.

The announcement follows other recent announcements about the new player development system.

"We are excited to unveil this new model," said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. "In modernizing our Minor League system, we prioritize the qualities that make the Minor Leagues such an integral part of our game while strengthening how we develop professional athletes."

Each MLB club will have four affiliates, one at each Triple-A, Double-A, High-A and Low-A levels. The parent club will provide both players and staff to the affiliates.
