MLB Cup, First Pitch reach hundreds of teams, thousands of kids in China

The development initiatives thrive. The Spring edition of the MLB Cup involved 536 teams. The First Pitch programme took baseball to over 100,000 students in 84 schools.

Major League Baseball (MLB) China ran the Spring edition of the MLB Cup. The event reached 18 locations from 11 March to 27 June, involving 536 participating teams.

Beijing and Shanghai hosted the MLB Cup in March. The core of the activity happened during April. The MLB Cup had 11 stops, Chengdu, Suzhou, Wuxi, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, Haikou, Jincheng, Chongqing, Changsha, Changchun, and Dalian. Qingdao, Wuhan and Shenyang hosted the MLB Cup in May. The last three stops were Hohhot and Nanchang in June and Tianjin in early July.

The MLB First Pitch project reached 84 schools in eight different cities in 2023, with five making their debut in the programme, Luzhou, Songyang, Yinchuan, Shenzhen and Hohhot. Zhongshan, Shanghai and Hangzhou were the other three cities.

The project involved 106,683 students. Yinchuan, 26 coaches and teachers, and Shenzhen, 48 teachers, also hosted coaching courses.
