MLB Cup Spring season involves 551 teams in China, First Pitch programme reaches 84 schools and over 100,000 students

The MLB Cup visited 19 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu while the MLB First Pitch 2023 programme saw 106,684 students participate.

Major League Baseball (MLB) continues its support of the development of baseball and softball in China with impressive participation numbers in the MLB Cup and the MLB First Pitch programme.

Dalian University hosted in August the MLB Cup Open Spring Finals. The three-day event involved 15 U-10 and 10 U-12 champion teams.

The Shenzhen Blue Sox won the U-10 tournament, with the Chengdu Besbo Phillies finishing second and the Dalian All-Star Diamondbacks in third place.

Zhengzhou Rangers, Nanchang Tongen Rockies, Changchun Flying Eagles Red Sox, Beijing Baseball Boy Reds, Hubei Tiger Warriors, Shangai 8N7U Astros, Qindao Ryan Guardians, Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Royals, Shanghai Yuxiu Pirates, Wuxi Diamond Athletics, Haikou Antelope Padres and Chongqing good Pepsi Brewers also participated.

Suzhou Amigo Dodgers won the U-12 tournament ahead of Shangai Superstar Mets. Beijing Haidan Foreign Language Yankees finished third.

Shenzhen Blue Sox, Dalian Dram Tigers, Wuhan Optics Valley Blue Jays, Chengdu Besbo Giants, Changchun Yinguan White Sox and Zhengzhou Kappa Mariners also participated.

The Spring season of the MLB Cup started in March and reached 19 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, over 14 provinces and involving 551 teams.

The MLB Cup's Fall season opened in September in Changchun and Shenyang, with 29 teams participating in the first event and 18 in the second. The first October event gathered 11 teams in Quingdao.

Menwhile, the MLB First Pitch 2023 programme ran from February to August in eight cities: Luzhou, Songyang, Zhongshan, Yinchuan, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hohhot. It reached 84 schools and 106,684 students.

A relevant part of the programme is about educating teachers and coaches. The courses involved a total of 190 participants: 26 in Yinchuan, 48 in Shenzhen, 54 in Shanghai and 62 in Zhangjiakou.

The programme was also active in Community Centres, reaching 994 participants in Yangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Wuxi, Shanghai and Shenyang.
