MLB, USA Baseball host third Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series

The event runs from Thursday, 11 November, through Sunday, 14 November, and features more than 30 female student-athletes, aged 14-17.

Major League Baseball (MLB) and USA Baseball will host the third annual Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series, a groundbreaking amateur development camp explicitly designed for girls baseball players, at two sites in Texas: the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy in Dallas and Choctaw Stadium in Arlington. The event runs from Thursday, 11 November, through Sunday, 14 November, and features more than 30 female student-athletes, aged 14-17, from around the United States. They will learn from female MLB and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) coaches, current and former members of the USA Baseball Women’s National Team, and former MLB players.

The coaching staff includes USA Women's National Team manager Veronica Alvarez, her assistant coach Alex Oglesby, National Team alumna and Arizona Diamondbacks minor league coach Ronnie Gajownik, National Team pitcher Maggie Meidlinger, Boston Red Sox minor league coach Bianca Smith, Florida Marlins assistant strength and conditioning coach Amanda Sartoris, former MLB players Cliff Floyd, LaTroy Hawkins, Lou Collier.

In addition to the elite-level instruction and development as well as exhibition games, participants will be treated to a series of experiences including classroom tutoring sessions and discussions around college baseball recruitment and women in coaching.

The baseball executives involved in the Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series are: Tony Reagins (Chief Baseball Development Officer, MLB); Elizabeth Benn (Sr. Coordinator, Baseball Operations, MLB); Ann Claire Roberson (Assistant Director, Baseball Operations, USA Baseball); David James (Vice President, Baseball & Softball Development, MLB).

The daily programme includes a morning session from 9:30 to 12:00 p.m, batting practice from 2:20 to 3 pm and an exhibition game from 3 to 5.30 pm.
