Diego Morales leads Guatemala to a stunning win in opening game at the curtains on the WBSC U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Eighteen year-old pitcher Diego Morales was the star of the show as he led world No. 21 Guatemala to a 16-1 victory over No. 11 Denmark with 2 hits, 3 runs at bat and 7 strikeouts from the mound to open the WBSC U-18 Men’s Softball World Cup.

Denmark got on the board first in the second inning courtesy of William Melin, but Guatemala answered back with their own 13-0 run with Morales taking charge. All players tallied at least one RBI to help Guatemala take charge.

The tough beginning continued for Denmark at the top of the third innings without scoring a run as August Bordonaro, Kristein Magnus and Linus Kjaerulff struckout early.

Morales added another one in the third, before José Galvez-Sobral and Alejandro Perdom sealed the deal for Guatemala with a double run.

Guatemala will next face world No. 1 Japan on Sunday at 13:00 local time, while Denmark will try to bounce back as they face No. 8 Mexico at 14:30.
