SYDNEY — Baseball Australia, the national governing body, has announced a two-year sponsorship with Sydney-based Boral, one of the world’s leading multinationals in the building and construction industry.

Through the partnership, Baseball Australia will promote the current world No. 3 in women’s baseball as the “Australian Emeralds presented by Boral”.

The Emeralds won the bronze medal at the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2014 in Miyazaki, Japan, and will be aiming for the world title at the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 in Gijang, South Korea, this September.

Boral CEO & Managing Director Mike Kane said: “Boral is proud to support the Australian Emeralds’ bid for success at this year’s World Cup in South Korea. South Korea is an important market for Boral and I look forward to the Australian Emeralds making their mark in Gijang City in September.”

Emeralds manager Simone Wearne said: “Boral’s support will put us in the best position to focus on performance as we pursue a medal at this year’s WBSC World Cup.”

The Emerald’s top finish in the Women’s Baseball World Cup was a silver medal in 2010.

Baseball Australia leaders say the sponsorship will be a boost not only to women’s baseball at the elite national team level, but also to development at the grassroots level.

Participation in baseball has been growing at a rate of 10% per year in Australia, whereas women’s baseball numbers are growing even faster at 13%, according to Baseball Australia.

Boral is also a current sponsor of the Australian Baseball League (ABL) as the presenting partner of the ABL All-Star Game and ABL Championship Series.
