National team players highlight USA’s 2022 Collegiate Player of the Year candidates

In total, 11 of the 25 names listed have participated in WBSC World Cups, while one more is slated to make her international debut this year.

USA Softball has announced the list of Top 25 Finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. In total, 11 of the 25 names listed have participated in WBSC Softball World Cups, while one more is slated to make her international debut this year.

Nine of the listed players have been crowned WBSC Junior Women’s Softball World Champions in the past, representing USA. Holly Azevedo, Baylee Klingler and Kathryn Sandercock were on the US squad that won the junior women’s softball world title in 2017, in Clearwater, Florida. Jayda Coleman, Megan Faraimo, Montana Fouts and Skylar Wallace were on USA's gold-medal winning junior national team team in Irvine, California, in 2019; while Valerie Cagle and Erin Coffel starred on USA’s U-18 world title winning team in last year in Lima, Peru.

Jocelyn Alo, who is setting NCAA Division I softball record for career home runs after passing Lauren Chamberlain’s 95-dinger mark, Fouts, Maxwell and Sandercock will play for USA this season. 

Great Britain ace Georgina Corrick is also in the race for the Collegiate Player of the Year award.

Considered the most distinguished individual honour in Division I college softball, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female collegiate softball players from across the country.

The Top 25 Finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be narrowed to 10 Finalists – released on May 4 – before the Top 3 Finalists are revealed on May 18. The 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women’s College World Series, which is slated for June 2-10.
