GIJANG, Korea – Two one-hitters and one two-hitter were thrown on Day 5 of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup, as Australia, Canada and Japan earned Super Round victories Thursday at Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.
Canadian National Team lefty Claire Eccles took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against potent Venezuela, helping Canada secure a vital 7-1 victory.
Japan’s Nana Sasanuma and Akino Tanaka combined for a one-hit, 10-0 victory over Chinese Taipei.
In a five-inning win over Korea, Australia’s Amy Collins and Linda Gough combined on a two-hitter.
On Friday the Super Round will continue: host/world No. 11 Korea will take on No. 3 Canada; No. 5 Venezuela and No. 6 Chinese Taipei will meet; and the No. 1 Japan’s Women’s National Team will carry a 17-game World Cup win-streak into the match against No. 3 Australia.
The top two nations in the standings after Friday’s and Saturday’s Super Round games will play For the Title of World Champion on Sunday.
