Nepal ready for Baseball5 after introductory workshop in Japan

The Nepal Baseball & Softball Association sent nine officials to Tokyo, Japan, to learn the basics of the new baseball/softball street discipline and introduce the sport in the country.

The Nepal Baseball & Softball Association (NBSA) made the first step towards joining the worldwide Baseball5 movement on 7 September, sending a group of nine officials to Japan, to participate in an introductory workshop in Tokyo, hosted by the Baseball Federation of Japan (BFJ).

The presidents of BFJ and NBSA also met in Tokyo and shared the advantages of developing Baseball5 in Nepal. BFJ President Masatake Yamanaka showed his organisation's support by donating Baseball5 balls to the NBSA to develop the new WBSC discipline in Nepal.

The nine officials from Nepal participated in an introductory course, lectured by WBSC Baseball5 Instructor Sujeewa Wijayanayake, from Sri Lanka. The course covered the Baseball5 basics, including an introduction to the rules, how to stage a Baseball5 event and also the main ideas to develop the discipline in the country.

Future plans include an online course to go into more details about Baseball5 game management and the basic techniques of the sport, and also a visit by Mr. Wijayanayake to Nepal, to host an in-person course to officials.
