New Zealand announces WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup roster

“We have a mix of players with both speed and power skills and also a high work ethic and the understanding of always putting the team first. Tough decisions were made in certain positions and some very good players missed out,” said coach Steve Deans.

Softball New Zealand have named 16 players to contest the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, to be held this year from 22-30 October in Parana, Argentina.

Steve Deans, one of the team coaches along with Fergus McAlpine, said: “We have a mix of players with both speed and power skills and also a high work ethic and the understanding of always putting the team first. Tough decisions were made in certain positions and some very good players missed out.

“We believe we have selected the best available players, including 10 who have been with this campaign for a while. Eight months out from the tournament we feel cohesion is a key component to success,” Deans said.

The list includes seven veterans from New Zealand’s 2018 junior team that earned a bronze medal at the WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship in Prince Albert, Canada.
