Davies powers New Zealand past Team WBSC for third consecutive win

Huw Davies led a 10-hit offence with a 2-for-4 game and 2 RBIs. New Zealand are undefeated, while Team WBSC are winless in Group B.

New Zealand kept their winning streak going Monday with a solid 7-0 performance over Team WBSC in the first game of the day at the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup. Huw Davies led a 10-hit offense with a 2-for-4 game and 2 RBIs.

New Zealand took control from the beginning as Tane Mumu led off the game with a triple to right field and scored on a grounder to second base. The Oceania team secured the victory in the fourth, when RBIs off Brock Evans' single, Mumu's grounder and Davies' single helped extending the lead to 5-0 for New Zealand.

In the sixth inning, Te Kirika Cooper-Nicola brought in Mumu with a single to centre field to make it 6-0. They capped their offensive performance one inning later, when Nola, who reached with a line-drive single, scored on a wild pitch.

Taine Slaughter was almost untouchable, as he struck out eight in five innings and only allowed a hit and a walk in his stint at the circle to earn the win. Diego Morales was the losing pitcher.
