No. 1 Japan, No. 4 Chinese Taipei share baseball gold at Universiade

GWANGJU, S. Korea – The university-based National Teams of Japan and Chinese Taipei were both awarded gold medals at the 2015 Universiade due to showers that forced the WBSC Technical Delegate to cancel the finale.

GWANGJU, S. Korea – The university-based National Teams of Japan and Chinese Taipei were both awarded gold medals at the 2015 Universiade due to showers that forced the WBSC Technical Delegate to cancel the finale.

Both Chinese Taipei and Japan finished the event with a record of four wins and no losses.

Prior to the rainfall, world No. 8 South Korea was able to defeat No. 2 United States, 14-6, to earn the bronze, while No. 12 Mexico beat No. 27 France, 4-2, in the 7th-8th classification contest.

No. 20 Czech Republic and No. 21 China were rained out of the 5th-6th place match.

The last time men’s baseball was featured at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer Universiade was in 1995.

Men’s baseball will also be featured on the programme at the next edition of the Summer Universiade in 2017 in Taiwan.
