Nuno Borges’ two-run single lifts Brazil to come-from-behind 3-2 win over Canada

It’s the second comeback-win for Brazil in as many days at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

A bases-loaded two run single by Brazil’s second baseman Nuno Borges in the bottom of the sixth gave the world No. 25 a 3-2 win over Canada, world ranked 12th, in a rain-delayed game at LECOM Park in Bradenton. It’s the second comeback-win for Brazil in as many days at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

Canada scored one in the top of the first. Leadoff hitter Dylan O’Rae drew a walk, moved to third on a single by Cameron Chee-Aloy and then scored on a double play grounder.

After only one inning, the game suffered a four-and-a-half hour delay due to rain. Canada’s starter Parker Burgess struck out two and allowed one hit in one inning of work, but was pulled after the delay.

In the third, both teams scored once. Chee-Aloy tripled to leadoff the inning, and scored immediately with a sacrifice fly by Hugh Pinkney. While Brazil scored thanks to an error by the Canadian defence.

In the bottom of the sixth Brazil loaded the bases with two outs, and Nuno Borges delivered a go-ahead single to right field to plate Julian Takeda and Enzo Ercole to give the South Americans a one-run lead.

Emmanoel Madeira pitched four masterful innings of no-hit ball. He struck out five in four innings and earned the win.

Brazil sits atop of the Group A standings with two wins and no loses, while Canada starts the tournament 0-1. Brazil will face Korea on Sunday 3 p.m. local time at Ed Smith Stadium, while Canada will play their second match of the Opening Round against the Netherlands.
