Olympic Council of Asia confirms Men's Baseball and Women's Softball for Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026

Men's baseball debuted at the Asian Games as a demonstration sport in 1990 and became a medal sport in 1994. Women's Softball has been a medal sport since 1990.

The Organising Committee of the 20th Asian Games (AINAGOC), to be held in Aichi/Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026 confirmed men's baseball and women's softball as part of its 41 sport event programme.

Men's baseball was introduced to the Asian Games in Beijing, China in 1990 and became a medal sport in 1994 in Hiroshima, Japan. Women's softball has been a medal sport since 1990.

WBSC Secretary General Beng Choo Low participated in the General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. After thanking AINAGOC, she announced WBSC Asia is still hopeful to include women's baseball and men's softball.

The XIX Asian Games will open on 23 September this year in Hangzhou, China and will feature 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 483 events including men's baseball and women's softball.

OCA Vice President Song Luzeng commented: "The preparations are in full swing, with the great support of the OCA, Chinese Olympic Committee and our National Olympic Committees. We have made satisfactory progress and are ready to welcome Asia to Hangzhou."
