In front of a sold-out crowd of 12,300 softball fans, the NCAA Women’s College World Series opened yesterday at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium - OGE Energy Field - in Oklahoma City, USA. The top eight college teams in the US will battle through a double elimination bracket for the national title.

Six USA Softball National Team members are participating in the tournament: Maya Brady, Megan Faraimo, Montana Fouts, Kelly Maxwell and Kiki Milloy. All of them will be in action in Group A of the XVII WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup, scheduled for 11-15 July in Fingal-Dublin, Ireland.

On Thursday, two-time Olympic medallist and WBSC Athlete Representative Monica Abbott tossed the ceremonial first pitch to start the day.

You can follow the tournament here. The tournament will be broadacst on the ESPN family of networks, including ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.

The OGE Energy Field has played host to the NCAA Division I Women's College World Series (WCWS) since 1990, with the exception of 1996 when it was played at the venue of the Atlanta Olympic Games where softball made its debut on the Olympic programme.

The stadium concluded $27.5 million renovations in 2020, which included the addition of 4,000 seats, new restrooms, suites, concession stands and an upgraded press box with media rooms, radio booths and locker rooms.
