Panama beat hosts Argentina, qualify for Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games baseball event

The Central American team defeated Argentina 9-3 in the final of the qualifier to earn their ticket to the biggest multi-sport event in the Americas.

World No. 14 Panama punched their ticket to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games baseball competition, after winning the qualifier in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Central American team defeated the hosts 9-3 in the final and earned their ticket to the biggest multi-sport event in the Americas.

After the Opening Round, Panama, Argentina and No. 13 Canada tied on top of the standings with a 3-1 record before the tie-break system (TQB) gave Panama and Argentina the top two spots in the standings and the tickets to the final.

Manuel Campos was the winning pitcher for Panama, tossing a seven-inning complete game giving up three runs and a walk, against five strikeouts. Panama’s Jose Mordock went 2-for-2 in the final with four RBIs and was named the MVP of the tournament.

Panama join Chile (host team), world No. 15 Colombia (Junior Pan Am Games gold medallists) and world No. 24 Brazil (South American champions) in the Santiago 2023 baseball competition, which is scheduled from 18 to 28 October.

The remaining four teams will qualify from the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
