Baseball5 showcased on public TV in Panama, adding further visibility to the global sport

Panama public broadcaster, Sistema Estatal de Radio y Televisión (SERTV, "State Radio and Television System"), covered the nation's first Baseball5 competition.

February 2020 will remain as a milestone in the history of sports in Panama. Thanks to a joint effort by the Umpires Academy, the Metropolitan Provincial League and the Panamanian Baseball Federation (FEDEBEIS, Federación Panameña de Béisbol), a Baseball5 competition was officially played for the first time and the event made national TV.

Baseball is the most practiced and popular sport in the Central American nation, and the addition of Baseball5 will potentially help to produce even more players and fans in Panama, which could send an alert to countries across the Americas to boost their programmes or fall behind. Panama is currently ranked 13th in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings.

The inaugural Baseball5 event in Panama was televised by SerTV, Panama's public TV station -- the biggest channel in the nation of approximately four million.

During the broadcast, FEDEBEIS announced plans to develop Baseball5 in the country. The goal is to meet the parameters established by the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

The Baseball5 competition in Panama included athletes from the Panama Metropolitan Provincial League.
